Blessed Trinity Speech & Debate Team Excels at Carter King Tournament

Blessed Trinity’s Speech and Debate Team made a strong debut this year at the Carter/King Tournament at Midtown High School in Atlanta. Under the leadership of Blessed Trinity Theology teacher Mrs. Angela Hartwell, the team officially launched this fall and wasted no time stepping into competition.

On December 6, the members of the team participated in the Carter/King Tournament, one of the region’s most active early-season events. The tournament featured 34 schools, 284 entries, 330 individual competitors, 163 judges and 18 events.

Three sophomores represented Blessed Trinity at the tournament: Kate Benson in Student Congress, Julia French in Impromptu Speaking and Suzanna Stevens in Informative Speaking. All three gained valuable experience, performing confidently in a highly competitive field.

The day’s standout achievement came from Kate Benson, who earned 2nd place in Student Congress, an impressive accomplishment for both her and the team.

Mrs. Hartwell praised the students’ dedication and enthusiasm, adding that the team’s formation would not have been possible without the initiative of senior Jackie Suto, whose passion and persistence helped bring Speech and Debate back to Blessed Trinity. With this strong start, Blessed Trinity looks forward to expanding its Speech and Debate opportunities and fostering students’ communication, leadership and critical thinking skills in the months ahead.
