The 2011-2012 Wrestling banquet was held on February 27th in the BT cafeteria.  Coach Richard Barden provided the audience with some seasonal facts and then presented the special awards for the year.

Since the 2003-04 season, when Coach Barden was named head coach, BT wrestling stats include: 3,653 wins (a 60% winning percentage), 217 dual wins, versus 94 losses (a 70% winning percentage), senior dual meet record of 106 – 38 (74%). This adds up to an average of 26.5 wins per year.

BT has now had 21 wrestlers amass 40 wins or more in a single season. The three additions this year are : Chris Solar (12th), Dutch Seitz (12th), and Bronco O’Brien (9th). Dutch Seitz’s 53 wins tied for 3rd best in school history, while Chris Solar’s 51 wins is the 5th best in BT history. Only five wrestlers have ever won 50+ matches in a season. The other three were Scott Buzzard ’09, Shane Fadem ’09 and Matt Murphy ’10.

Blessed Trinity has had nine wrestlers with more than 100 wins, adding Chris Solar, Dutch Seitz, Scott Evans and Evan Strawn (11th) this year.

Chris Solar eclipsed the school record for wins by 21 (his 154 to 133 for Michael Parker ‘08). Scott Evans moved into 3rd all-time with 130 wins, and Dutch Seitz moved into 4th with 124. These three seniors are among the top four in wins at BT!

Bronco O’Brien set a new record for wins by a freshman with 46, eclipsing the old record of 39 by Evan Strawn.

Michael Muller (10th) became the 27th wrestler in school history to achieve more than 50 career wins, and will be one of only two active wrestlers (Evan Strawn) to do so on next year’s team (note Kyle Evans (10th) has 47 and Bronco O’Brien has 46).

Bronco O’Brien became the 16th state placer in school history and the third straight at the 160 lb. weight class.

Blessed Trinity has had 45 different wrestlers qualify for state with the addition of three new members this year – Michael Reagan (12th), Michael Muller and Bronco O’Brien.

Chris Solar became the first four-time state qualifier, while Evan Strawn, Dutch Seitz and Scott Evans became three-time state qualifiers (total of 10 in school history).

This senior class won the annual Catholic Duals back-to-back for first time in BT history, and won the Titan Cup Tournament three straight years.
