Volleyball Team Takes State

The newspaper’s headline may have called them “Blessed,” but for Blessed Trinity’s varsity volleyball team it was believing in the “Trinity” that saw them through a phenomenal state championship victory. The third time truly was the charm when the Lady Titans went up against the defending state champs, Westminster, in as many years.

The championship match went to five games; with Westminster getting an early lead winning the first two games. During the third game, the Lady Titans faced three Westminster match points only to dig themselves out to a 27 to 25 win. In the fourth game, BT broke through early and kept an impressive lead, winning 25-11. Throughout the fifth and final game, the Lady Titans kept killing and digging to triumph as the comeback kids of the state tournament with a 15-13 victory.

“What an incredible match,” said a beaming Paul Stevens, head BT volleyball coach, who admittedly lost all composure when the final whistle blew. “To come back from such a deficit took every single player on the team believing – believing in themselves, believing in each other, and believing we could do it. Even when things weren’t looking good for us, no one on this team gave up. I can’t say enough about the character and the heart of this team, and our seniors did an amazing job setting that tone for the team.”
