Gus Smith

Coach Smith has been the hurdles coach at Blessed Trinity since 2006 and is proud of his Titan hurdlers who have made it to the state championship every year. Last year, Titan hurdler Bailey Durham was a double state runner-up in both the 110 meter high hurdles and 300 meter IM hurdles and set new school records in both. The hurdles squad has had six Region champions and eight school records in the past 7 years.

Coach Smith still actively competes in the hurdles himself. He is a veteran of 5 USA National and World Masters Championships and is a 5 time medalist. At his last USA National meet he won 2 silver medals, including the 400m hurdles.

He encourages the students to never give up on their dreams, since he himself didn't wear the Olympic uniform until age 50 when he competed for the USA at the World Masters Championship.

Dr. Smith is a full-time physician specializing in psychiatry and married to Dr. Corinne Smith. His children were both hurdlers at BT, with Andrew winning the Region Championship in the 110m high hurdles with a school record. Daughter McKenna also played on the state championship volleyball team in 2010 and set 5 school records. Former Titan hurdler and school-record-holder Tyler Harrison currently runs for Ole Miss.
