Theatrical Alliance presents Fight Girl Battle World September 17-18
Blessed Trinity’s Theatrical Alliance will present Qui Nguyen’s science fiction comedy/adventure Fight Girl Battle World on Friday and Saturday September 17-18 at 7:30pm. Fight Girl is the story of the last two humans in the universe and their efforts to avoid the United Galactic Alliance and find a safe haven for humanity’s future.
“It’s a really unusual play,” said Allan Dodson, the play’s director. “It has a lot of huge fight scenes, it uses video, and there is puppetry involved. It’s unlike anything we’ve ever done.”
Cast members for the play went through a grueling two-day stage combat seminar to prepare for Fight Girl. “Everyone was pretty bruised up at the end of the training. There were a lot of sore muscles. But we had a lot of fun,” says Dodson.
While the actors are busy putting the “fight” in Fight Girl, Mr. Nguyen’s script has plenty of comedy as well. “It has nods to just about every science fiction movie you can think of,” says Dodson. “There are quite a few lines that make us all laugh every time in rehearsal.”
“Even if you don’t normally come to plays, you’ll like this one,” Dodson says. “It really redefines what we think of as theater.”
Tickets for Fight Girl Battle World are free for students, faculty, and staff, and $5 for general admission. The play contains “cartoon violence” that might be intense for very young children.
