Serve for the Cure - October 2-3
The Blessed Trinity volleyball team is hosting the 2nd annual Blessed Trinity Serve for the Cure Invitational Volleyball Tournament. This year’s event will take place on October 2 and 3. All proceeds from the tournament go to fund breast cancer research through the American Cancer Society.
According to Blessed Trinity varsity volleyball coach Paul Stevens, the Lady Titans have worked hard to ensure this tournament is an even greater success than last years. “Last year, we raised $2,500, so this year’s team immediately set a goal of raising even more money. They came up with some new ideas for things that we could do differently to build on that success.”
While admission to the tournament will be free of charge, fans will be asked to make a donation to breast cancer research. This year’s tournament will again feature a bake sale, handmade pillows, pink ribbons, and the popular 50/50 raffle, where the 2008 winner took home almost $500. In addition, the players will be selling hand-decorated picture frames with photos of each team in the tournament as well as t-shirts designed by the varsity players. The JV players will donate their time all weekend by helping to run all the tables and booths at the tournament.
“I’d really like to encourage all BT students and parents to come out to Serve for the Cure,” said Stevens. “The competition is outstanding -9 of the 12 teams at the tournament are ranked in the top 10 in their classification - so everyone will get to see some great volleyball and support a worthy cause.”
