Light of the World Service
Christ said, “You are the light of the world” (Mt. 5:14). We are called to live as a reflection of Christ and go out into the world to serve others and spread His Good News by our actions and words. We bring God’s love and compassion to those in need when we reach out to others and perform Works of Mercy.
Participation in our "Light of the World" service program is a graduation and annual requirement. Students must complete 15 service hours each school year. Students are encouraged to perform service over and above the requirement. They should report all their hours since they will receive credit for bonus hours that exceed the requirement.
Works of Mercy service hours are encouraged and recommended. Refer to the Approved Works of Mercy Organizations that are recognized for credit. If a student finds an organization not on the approved works of mercy list, and it meets the criteria for works of mercy service, they can contact the Coordinator of Campus Ministry to have that organization approved and added to the list.
Refer to the guidelines for what is NOT Accepted As Service.
All service activity must be reported electronically in x2VOL. New students were trained in the fall on how to access x2VOL (through Naviance). Students must enter the email address of the supervisor for their service. x2VOL will automatically send an email to that supervisor requesting verification for the service activity. After the supervisor verifies the information, the Coordinator of Campus Ministry will approve the x2VOL report. If a report is not verified, it cannot be approved. Students are responsible for following up with their service supervisors to get verification.
15 service hours must be performed, reported, verified and approved during first semester.
Due Date: December 7, 2018.
Balance of service hours are due no later than April 12, 2019.
Both dates are on the printed BT calendar families received.
Seniors who qualify to exempt final exams must meet the service requirement on these due dates.
