Carleen O'Brien Named STAR Student

Each year, the Professional Association of Georgia Educators Foundation (PAGE), in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Education and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, names a STAR Student from each participating Georgia high school. BT’s Carleen O’Brien, who has also been named this year’s Valedictorian, was named as the school’s top academic senior.

Each STAR Student is asked to name a STAR Teacher who has been a special influence in their academic career; Carleen chose Michele Coco, a science teacher and Carleen’s track coach a BT. "This was such a great honor and to be chosen really touched my heart," said Ms. Coco. "Carleen is a wonderful student in every aspects, academically as well as athletically. She has been the top student in AP Biology this year as well as a team leader in cross country and track. She will be missed, but will surely go on to great things in college!"

To obtain the STAR nomination, students must have the highest score in one sitting on the new three-part Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) taken through the November test date of their senior year and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average.
