Nat’l Merit Semi-Finalists and Nat’l Hispanic Scholars

Three Blessed Trinity students have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program as semi-finalists. The same number of BT seniors have also been named as National Hispanic Scholars.

BT seniors Joel Anderson, Marian Baker and Elliott Brewer are among 16,000 semifinalists in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors become semifinalists in the program which then gives them the opportunity to compete for 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth $32 million. Roughly 90 percent of the semifinalists go on to be finalist.

Seniors Joel Anderson, Billy Moir and Paige Rinehart have all been recognized by the National Hispanic Recognition Program for their exemplary performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test taken during junior year.

Each year, the program selects nearly 5,000 NHRP outstanding Hispanic/Latino students as NHRP Scholars from a pool of more than 250,000 who identified themselves as Hispanic, according to district officials.
