Light of the World Service
Christ said, “You are the light of the world” (Mt. 5:14). We are called to live as a reflection of Christ and go out into the world to serve others and spread His Good News by our actions and words. We bring God’s love and compassion to those in need when we reach out to others and perform Works of Mercy.
Participation
in the "Light of the World" service program is a
graduation and annual requirement at Blessed Trinity. Students must complete a
minimum of 15 service hours per school year: at least 10 hours must be Works of Mercy and no more than 5 hours can be other service (non Works of Mercy) or students may perform all 15 hours in Works of Mercy. Students are encouraged to perform service over and above the requirement. They should report all their hours since they will receive credit for bonus hours that exceed the requirement.
Only organizations
on the Works of Mercy Approved Organizations list will be recognized for credit in that category.
The “Light of the
World” service report can be downloaded or obtained from Campus Ministry or the Front Office. All service reports must be turned in to Ms. McCarthy no later
than 5 full school days after completion of the service to receive full credit. Service
performed during a school break needs to be submitted no later than 5 full
school days after the break. Late reports will receive 50% credit.
Students who do not fulfill
the service requirement will not receive their spring report card or any
subsequent report cards until service hours for that year are completed. Seniors will not walk at graduation or be exempt from exams.
For the 2011-2012 school year, 5 Works of Mercy are due no later than December 9, 2011. The balance of service hours are due no later than April 30, 2012.
Campus Ministry offers a service honor cord for seniors who complete a minimum of 100 or more works of mercy service hours during their academic years at BT. Seniors who are eligible may purchase the cord in Campus Ministry in April.
